Setting Limits

Betting should remain a form of entertainment. Setting limits can help you stay in control of how much you spend and make conscious decisions about your gambling.

Betcenter provides tools to help you manage your gambling activity, alongside the limits imposed by Belgian law.

Why Set a Limit?

Before you start betting, decide how much money you can comfortably afford to spend.

Your gambling budget should always be separate from money needed for everyday expenses such as housing, food, utilities, savings or debt repayments.

A limit should be based on what you can afford to lose — not on how much you hope to win.

Never increase your gambling expenditure in an attempt to recover previous losses.

Online Deposit Limits

Belgian legislation limits the amount that can be deposited into an online player account.

The standard maximum is €200 per week.

This is a deposit limit: it controls how much money can be added to your player account during the relevant period.

You can choose to set your personal deposit limit below the statutory maximum.

If you feel comfortable you may also chose to increase the abovementioned weekly deposit limit. Please note that the Belgian Gambling Act requires us to request approval which takes 72 hours following this request. After those 72 hours, unless you would decide to cancel your request, the new increased deposit limit shall be active.

Lowering your limit

You can lower your limit whenever you want. A reduction takes effect immediately.

Choosing a lower limit can be a useful way to establish a gambling budget that reflects your personal financial circumstances.

Increasing your limit

If you have previously chosen a lower limit, or if you request an increase above the standard limit where permitted by Belgian law, different rules may apply.

Belgian law deliberately prevents certain increases from taking effect immediately. Any increase over the €200 per week deposit limit, a three-day waiting period applies and the necessary regulatory checks must be completed before the higher limit can become available.

Betcenter cannot override the limits, waiting periods or checks required by Belgian law.

Choose a Limit That Works for You

The legal maximum should not automatically be considered an appropriate personal gambling budget.

For example, if €25 per week is the amount you are comfortable spending on betting, consider setting your limit at €25 rather than leaving it at the maximum permitted amount.

Ask yourself:

  • How much can I genuinely afford to lose?
  • Would losing this amount affect my everyday expenses?
  • Am I increasing my gambling budget after losing?
  • Am I depositing more frequently than I originally intended?
  • Am I hiding my gambling expenditure from other people?

If the answer to any of these questions concerns you, consider lowering your limit or taking a break from gambling.

Limits and Retail Betting

The statutory online player-account deposit limit relates to funding an online player account and should not be interpreted as a personal gambling budget that automatically applies across every form of gambling.

If you also bet in a Betcenter shop, keep your retail expenditure in mind when deciding what you can afford to spend overall.

Where you use a Betcenter member.card or other available account functionality in retail, reviewing your recorded activity can help you maintain a better overview of your gambling.

A useful personal budget should therefore consider your total gambling expenditure, both online and in retail locations.

Limits Are a Tool, Not a Target

A limit is a maximum — it is not an amount you are expected to spend.

There is no reason to use the full amount available to you.

If you find yourself regularly reaching your limit, waiting for a limit to reset or looking for other ways to continue gambling after reaching a limit, this may be a sign that you should take a break and review your gambling behaviour.

Need More Control?

Setting a lower limit is only one of the options available.

Furthermore our website offers the possibility to either temporarily or even permanently lock your account through an account closure or timeout (see the Responsible Gaming tab under your Account.

If gambling is becoming difficult to control, you can stop gambling and, where appropriate, request exclusion through the Belgian EPIS system.

An EPIS exclusion can prevent access to gambling facilities and online gambling services covered by the Belgian exclusion system.
